Cleaning out gutters can be simple yet complicated (at times). Simple to complete, but made more difficult by having to climb a ladder - usually above 10 feet. Two-story homes or businesses may require a taller ladder or even a mechanical lift system to reach them. In general, a ladder for homes is used. The difficulty comes when there are gutter guards covering the gutter to keep leaves and other larger debris from entering the downspouts and clogging them up. Over time they clog right over the top of the guard's grill and prevent the water from even entering the gutter proper and allow the water over the side as if no gutter was even there. Plastic and metal are generally the same but certainly can help if kept clean.
